Dr. Jesse Parks was an accomplished figure in physical education and civil rights. With his involvement in outreach programs, research regarding inner city physical education, and numerous memberships surrounding P.E., civil rights, and the Springfield community, he was dedicated to spreading physical health and equal opportunity at home and abroad. The collection contains biographical information, photographs, news articles, correspondence, research notes and data, informational pamphlets, forms, small tools, a dictionary, and maps. There is information on Operation Crossroads Africa, which took place during the summer of 1962, materials and research from Dr. Parks’ dissertation “An Electromyographic and Mechanical Analysis of Selected Abdominal Exercises”, and various photographs, news releases, news articles, and correspondence.
