About Interlibrary Loan

Interlibrary Loan (ILL) provides current Springfield College faculty, students and staff access to items that are not owned by Library Services. We also provide digitized copies of articles and book chapters from our collection via this service.

How to Use Interlibrary Loan

Placing Requests

Items may be requested through ILL through Quick Search, the Get It button in a library database or journal, or filling out an ILL request form manuallyPlease note that we cannot provide access to course textbooks via ILL. Learn more about the process to place a request here

Receiving Items

Books and other physical items may be picked up at the Information Desk in the Harold C. Smith Learning Commons or mailed to you at the address the College has on file. We will ship items via UPS and provide you with a prepaid return label and instructions for return at your nearest UPS location.

Notifications

Notifications on item availability will always be sent to your Springfield College email address. You may add an additional alternate email address that you check frequently or a mobile number to receive updates via text message (SMS) via your Library Account

Turnaround Time

At present, the turnaround time for ILL is 7-10 days for books and 1-3 days for articles, with most articles and book chapters being delivered to your Library Account within hours. Shipping times for physical items from other libraries may cause a delay.

Renewals

Renewals may be requested up to 5 days prior to the due date by emailing libraryill@springfield.edu. Not all items will be eligible for renewal.

Course Reserves

Material owned by another library and obtained via Interlibrary Loan may not be placed on reserve.
