Notes on HUSB 331

HUSB 331 is the third class in this sequence, and the second group project class. Students will be working on their projects consistently and need a high level of knowledge of searching, finding and evaluating knowledge.

REQUIRED exercises are marked with an asterisk. 

Faculty may also opt to have a librarian-led instruction session in place of some of required activities.  The session content will depend on the curriculum worked out between the librarian and faculty member.

Searching and finding

Reinforcing and mastery exercises and lessons related to reinforce and expand the breadth and depth of students searching skills.

Using information effectively

Reinforcing lessons and exercises. 

As the students delve deeper into the research process for their main project, the goal of these exercises is to help develop the skills necessary to organize that information in a way that best conveys their topic. Quoting and Paraphrasing describes the ways in which to integrate other people's data and ideas effectively into the students' own paper. Drafts and Proofreading allows students to have their work proofread while also learning the skills to edit, as well.

Action Research

Pre-search and topic development

Mastery exercises and lessons to build students' ability to create manageble research projects and to think through what information they will need for the projects.

Evaluating information

Reinforcing and mastery lessons and exercises. Students will be able to evaluate information sources related to their discipline. Student will be able to demonstrate an ability to identify the value, the differences, and respective audiences of potential resources and formats in a specific discipline (popular/scholarly; current/historical; etc.)

Information ethics

Reinforcing lessons and exercises to strengthen students use of and understanding of the ethical and legal use of information.
