Setting Up Alerts: Overview

Some grant databases or organizations allow you to set up and receive email alerts when a new grant of interest is available. How to do this and to what extent you can customize it to your interests, varies from one source to another.  Below you will find information on creating alerts for some of the larger grant tools we have access to.  

Setting up GrantSearch (GRS) alerts

If you would like to receive notification when a relevant grant is added to GrantSearch follow these steps:

  1. Connect to GrantSelect. (Login information available to faculty from the Office of Graduate Education, Grants, & Sponsored Research).
  2. Under the GrantSearch pull-down menu choose Faculty Alerts
  3. Click on Create New Alert
  4. Select "Academic Subjects" to include in your alert.
    1. Choose "Only the Academic Subjects Below"
    2. Pull down the "Select an Academic Category" menu and choose one option
    3. Pull down the "Select an Academic Subject" menu and choose one option.
    4. Repeat steps 2 and 3 until you have added all the Academic Subjects you want.
  5. Select Activities to include in your alert
    1. Select either "All Activities" or "Only the Activities Below"  
    2. If using "Only the Activities Below"  pull down the "Select an Activity" menu and choose an activity type. 
    3. Repeat step 2 until you have selected all the activities you are interested in.
  6. Select Funding Sponsors to include in your alert.
    1. Choose either "All Funding Sponsors" or "Only the Funding Sponsors Below"
    2. If using "Only the Funding Sponsors Below"  pull down the "Select a Funding Sponsor" menu and choose a sponsor.. 
    3. Repeat step 2 until you have selected all the sponsors you are interested in.
    4. NOTE: The more sponsor options the better. Choose "All Funding Sponsors" unless you have a very specific reason not to. 
  7. Enter your personal information
    1. NOTE: The email address must be your Springfield College email.
  8. Save the Alert

You will receive a monthly email alert with the funding opportunities that match your search criteria. 

Setting up Grants.gov alerts

If you would like to receive notification when a relevant grant is added to Grants.gov follow these steps.

  1. Register with Grants.gov (free)

  2. Go to the Search Grants page and run a search. 
    1. Options for help with searching:

      2. Contact the Office of Graduate Education, Grants, & Sponsored Research
      3. Contact your library liaison
  3. After creating and running a search click on the red Save Search button.
  4. Log in to your account, if necessary (you must have registered and be logged in to your account to save a search.
  5. Name your search. (you also have the option to modify your search criteria at this point) 
  6. Save it. 

You will receive an email whenever a new opportunity matching your search criteria is posted.

Setting up NIH alerts

If you would like to receive notification when a relevant grant is posted by NIH follow these steps.

  1. Run a search using NIH's Find Funding page.
  2. Click on Save your Search. 
  3. Give the search a name and enter your email address.
  4. Choose how frequently you want email updates (daily, weekly, monthly) 
  5. You will receive a confirmation email. SAVE IT. It contains the link to unsubscribe if you ever need to do so.
