Print Children's Books

The Library has a small collection of children's books on the 4th floor of the Leaning Commons. You will find them just to the right, after you exit the elevator.

If you are off-campus,  or would like to browse the print book titles from home,  use one of these two links:

Public Libraries will have much larger children's book collections than college libraries. Visit the public library in your home town to see what resources they have.  You may also be able to use your public library card at other public libraries. Check with your local library to find out where else you can use your card. Springfield College students who are living in Massachusetts (including living on campus) are  eligible for a library card from the Springfield City Library and an e-card from the Boston Public Library.   Here are the websites for some of the public libraries in the towns around the College's main campus:

Choosing Online Children's Literature

You may also find children's books online.  While a few sites include some recent books made available under Creative Commons or similar licenses, most freely available online children's books are available because they are old enough for their copyright to have expired, (i.e. they are in the Public Domain).

When looking at the various collections below,  remember that works will often reflect the values, beliefs and prejudices of their time period. Be sure to take this into account when selecting works appropriate for your purposes.

Online Children's Literature

With the exception of Storytime Online, this box lists sites which have freely available ebooks.
