Short statement that describes what it means to be a Distinguished Professor of Humanics:
It was, and still is, a distinct honor, to have been named as a Distinguished Springfield Professor of Humanics. It continues to give me an immense feeling of pride to have joined a long list of Springfield College Professors who had been my teachers, were my mentors, and more recently those who were now my colleagues. Having spent 40 years, basically my entire professional career, teaching at Springfield College, I feel this appointment is the highest honor a faculty member can be given. It gave me the opportunity to closely examine, both my own view of Humanics, and the writings of those who came before me. That experience was very challenging, and very satisfying both intellectually and personally. I continue to consider the appointment as Distinguished Springfield Professor of Humanics an honor not to be taken or given lightly.

Short statement that describes how you continued to live the Humanics mission after your year as Distinguished Professor of Humanics:
I continued teaching, advising students, supervising student teachers, and serving on a variety of department and all college committees for approximately ten years until my retirement. During that time I continued to “live” the Humanics mission. Since retiring, I have maintained a close association with the College by serving as my class President, serving on the Alumni Council and being heavily involved with the Council’s advocacy with the Department of Health and Physical Education and the proposed new General Education requirements. I also have maintained a close association with the varsity softball program including spending the week with the team during their annual spring break trip to Florida.
