Dr. Weckwerth had a relationship with Springfield College that spanned over seventy years beginning with his undergraduate experience. He graduated in 1931 and returned to the college to teach soon after. He held the position of Director of the Department of Community and Outdoor Recreation and his love of the College was recognized over the years. He won the Distinguished Alumnus Award in 1973 and the Tarbell Medallion in 1978. He has both an annual lecture, Charles F. Weckwerth Lecture and a scholarship named after him – both in the Recreation Department. He retired in 1975 and for a number of years was the informal archivist of the college. Dr. Weckwerth died in 2002.
