Library Databases: Scholarly Articles
Library databases provide access to scholarly journals and peer-reviewed articles. Here are a few databases that specialize in history, law, politics, and related subjects.
- Academic Search Complete
A very large general academic database covering a broad range of topics. It includes a mix of magazine and journal articles. Many items are full text. - JSTOR
Scholarly journals and ebook chapters covering a variety of humanities topics. - HeinOnline
HeinOnline offers original PDF copies in full text of legal collections, including full runs of law journals and case documents from the U.S. and internationally. - SocINDEX
An excellent source of information on sociology and the social sciences, including full text for journals and information on books, dissertations, etc. - Google ScholarAlthough Google Scholar is not a library database, this free online resource allows you to quickly search hundreds of thousands of academic citations to articles, books, and more. Find full-text articles that you can access through library services, or request articles using Interlibrary Loan.

Find articles and overviews that offer historical context, biographical information about historical figures, and primary source materials.
- U.S. History in Context
Topic-based overviews of historical issues, events, and people. Each topic includes reference information, relevant news and journal articles, and some primary sources. - Biography in Context
Contains biographical information from encyclopedias, biographical dictionaries, and other publications. - Opposing Viewpoints in Context
Search or browse through many current topics of interest here. Includes news, opinions and academic articles. - World History in Context
