Databases for Researching Communications/Sports Journalism
Databases are a great places to find scholarly journal articles - including those that are peer-reviewed - on different topics. Here are a few databases that specialize in journalism, communications, media, sports and related subjects.

Communication and Mass Media Complete
Provides information about language, mass media, communication, and advertising with many articles available full-text. -
Academic Search Complete
A very large general academic database covering a broad range of topics. It includes a mix of magazine and journal articles. Many items are full text. -
JSTOR
Full text of language and literature journals that span the literary cultures of many countries, as well as a general ebook collection. Includes expanded temporary access through December 31, 2020 due to the COVID-19 outbreak. -
Literary Reference Center
Provides information on approximately 140,000 authors from a wide range of literary disciplines and time frames as well as plot summaries, synopses, and overviews of their works. In addition, it also includes 14,500 short stories and 54,000 poems. -
MLA International Bibliography
Over 1.8 million citations of journal articles, books, and dissertations. Subjects covered include literature, language and linguistics, literary theory and criticism, and dramatic arts. Links to some full-text are available via other Library databases. Book titles should be checked in online catalog. -
Google Scholar
Google Scholar is a free online resource which will allow you to quickly search hundreds of thousands of academic citations to articles, books, and more. Check full text access through Journal titles A-Z or order the items you find through Interlibrary Loan.
Newspaper Databases
In addition to databases containing scholarly articles about journalism, communications, and mass media, the library also has access to a number of databases providing current and historical access to a variety of newspaper articles.
