In Thornton Wilder’s Our Town, the message that life should not be taken for granted truly resonates with me. Through the experiences of Emily, a character who unexpectedly dies at a young age, the play explores the simple, repetitive nature of everyday life and showcases the beauty and value of routine. In this essay, I argue that Our Town encourages us to appreciate the mundane moments in our lives before they are gone. Drawing from personal experiences and connecting them to the play, I will reflect on how we, like the characters in Our Town, often fail to recognize the significance of the routine and simplicity that make up our lives. By reflecting on our routines and the small moments we may overlook, we can learn to cherish them before it’s too late.
