20th Annual Undergraduate Scholars in Action Days

Keynote Panel + Prizes!

Thursday 4/18/24 12:15 – 1:05, Keynote Panel/Awards Ceremony (Campus Union/Dodge Rooms)

Keynote Panel: "Tackling Mythbusting in Higher Education"

Some would say we're living in a post-truth age. Is it the rise of social media? Intensified political polarization? Growing distrust in knowledge institutions and experts? Manipulation and disinformation campaigns? Emphasis on narrative over facts? Cognitive biases? This panel is here to tackle the question, how do we as researchers and educators, within our respective fields and disciplines, go about tackling myths, misinformation, and the associated in-group loyalties that entrench viewpoints and make bridging differences so challenging? What are examples of myths from your field, and how do you approach them, either as an educator or researcher?

Panelists:

Chelsea Allison (Department of Exercise Science and Athletic Training)
Mackenzie Dunn (Library Services, Reference Librarian)
James O'Brien (Department of Mathematics, Physics, and Computer Science)
